What is a sample license?
When you purchase a Sampling CD/DVD, or download "apple loops", sampler instruments, sound samples from www.stevelevine.co.uk, you are NOT obtaining OWNERSHIP of the actual sound samples or loops - you are in fact purchasing a LICENSE to use the sound samples & loops within your musical compositions, whether or not your compositions are released commercially. As the producers of the original sound samples & loops, we will always retain OWNERSHIP of the actual sound samples.
Using the sound samples & loops
You may use the sound samples & loops in combination with other sounds within your musical compositions. You may release such compositions commercially, without payment of any further fees or royalties for such usage. For example, if you are the original purchaser of a Sample CD (or you download sound samples from this site), you can use the sound samples & loops, either "as is" or re edit, or process them to create a movie or television soundtrack or a television or radio commercial or a track on a music CD/DVD
Limitations
You cannot use the sounds in isolation (i.e. when they are not used within musical compositions) as part of a commercially released project. For example, you cannot use the sounds to make another Sample CD, or include them as individual sound samples on a multimedia CD, gaming machine, or toy. You must add substantial instrumentation to loops.
You cannot upload or download the sound samples to any database or server, unless they are used in a musical composition (in combination with other sounds) created by you.
Music Production or Music Library Use
If you are a music producer or composer using our 'loops' the following terms apply:
- Loops must be used in a musical context with other instruments that contribute to the composition.
- The entire loop cannot used in isolation at any time in the composition.
- If you have any doubts a composition meets this criteria, you may submit it to licensing@stevelevine.co.uk for written approval.
(Please do not send audio or MP3 files, send us a link to your composition.)
NOTE: The exception to this restriction is 'multi-sampled instruments',(for example, a multi-sampled electric piano, such as "Levine Rhodes"). where users play the notes as part of the musical composition
Who else can use the sounds or loops I have purchased?
Only the ORIGINAL PURCHASER has the right to use the sound samples. You CANNOT SELL OR LEND or give the sounds to anyone else. If you do, and they use the sounds within a commercial release, they, or anyone associated with the distribution of the music, may face legal action.
Credits for the use of the sounds or loops?
This is not required, but is always appreciated.
