RICHARD ALLINSON

Richard began his professional radio career in the early 1980s. His 25+ years in broadcasting have revolved around two of the most prestigious radio stations in the UK. He joined Capital Radio (London's largest commercial radio station) on a five week contract in 1980, and ended up presenting a variety of programmes during a 17 year residency at the network, including their chart show, the early breakfast show, the afternoon slot and the late-night 10 p.m. to midnight show. He left the station in 1997 to join the BBC's national network Radio 2 and brought a fresh approach to their late night music format. With an eclectic mix of music and studio guests (which ranged from politicians to musicians and authors to film stars), Richard was rewarded with a coveted Sony Radio Gold Award in 1998 for the best late night music programme. He was the network's choice to host the programme marking Paul McCartney's return to The Cavern in Liverpool (1999) and for a number of years in the late 90s and early 00s he presented Radio 2's coverage of both 'The Brits' and the renowned Ivor Novello Awards. Richard is constantly in demand as a broadcaster. This has ranged from being a regular presenter on VH1 in the 90s to his current daily show on BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) which he manages to fit into a schedule that includes his commitments to Radio 2, BBC Radio Oxford and a wide variety of voice-over work. His enthusiasm for not only music, but also the arts in general has seen him as a regular judge on the prestigious Laurence Olivier Theatre Awards, whilst a more than healthy interest in both food and fine wine has seen him not only dine with royalty, but famously spill a drink over Madonna!
