Using The Steve Levine Recycle REX Files

Recycle Loops (also known as REX files) were developed by Propellerheads for their superb sequencer package Reason.

REX files are also compatible with a number of Apple Macintosh & PC software packages - Apps like Logic Pro, as well as the very popular software Drum module Stylus RMX by Spectrasonics.

“REX File Loops” are prerecorded music files containing special “tags” that allow you to easily add drum beats, rhythm parts, and other repeating patterns to a song.

When you add REX files to a song, in for example, Logic Pro , the host creates a region for the loop in the timeline. The host sequencer then automatically matches the tempo of the region to the song's tempo. This lets you use several loops together, even if the loops were recorded at different speeds.

After downloading the files from www.stevelevine.co.uk Copy the REX files folder to a convenient location on your hard drive.

Stylus RMX users.

REX files need to be imported into Stylus RMX using the spectrasonics supplied SAGE converter program.

The quickest method is to simply drag & drop the folder containing the loops to the open SAGE converter window. SAGE will then give you the option of naming the folder, (eg Levine Rex Loops) after this it will then copy & convert the files to the appropriate library location.

When you launch RMX the loops appear in the “user” section of RMX with the folder name you used. See the RMX user guide or web site for more information.
